Current time: 5:14 a.m.
Out the window: I can hardly believe I'm saying this, but we got MORE snow overnight. The only consolation is that it looks pretty - it has yet to be sullied by traffic.
On the menu: Today I'm working with the same cookbook as I did last week - The Food Network Kitchens Making it Easy. This week I'm firing up the slow cooker again and trying the recipe for "Weekday Italian Gravy," a hearty pasta sauce with Italian sausage and beef.
Reading: I borrowed The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern from the library, fully expecting to love it, but I'm about 60 pages in and so far I'm struggling to stay interested. The story feels sort of flat to me, so I will probably give it a pass.
Listening: I've just discovered the wonder that is Paolo Nutini. This young Scottish lad (I'm juuuuuust about old enough to be his mother - sigh), has a set of pipes on him that will knock your socks off. This video is a live version of his new single "Iron Sky," performed at Abbey Road Studio in London.
The only drawback is the subtitles. I don't mind them, but you can always tell that you lose a little in the translation - there are subtleties and nuances of language that get left out.
Good Stuff:
- Confirmation from my doctor that all of my levels are normal.
- Filling in a crossword puzzle with a perfectly sharpened pencil.
- Rain in the forecast for next week. It's for less than a millimetre, and it will probably fall as snow, but one can hope.
- Having a laugh with a very punny grocery store cashier.
Out and About:
- I can't stop giggling at John Travolta's flub at the Oscars. Now we can all join in the game with the "Adele Dazeem Name Generator" - just type in your name, and the computer will "Travoltify" it for you. Mine? Seonaidh Brazent.
- Amazing Yin Yang Hair Moment Captured on a Bus
- This cool father made geeky alphabet blocks for his kid, and made sure they were gender balanced.
- Body Shapes: A Handy Guide
- Can You Work Out Which Superhero These Undies Belong To?
- How Dogs Read Our Moods: Emotion Detector Found In Fido's Brain (Love the photos.)
That's all for this week.
