River - I think immediately of the two mighty rivers that flow through and converge in my city, Winnipeg. The Red and the Assiniboine meet at The Forks, a public gathering space in the middle of the city. The Forks first became a meeting place more than 6,000 years ago when early Aboriginal peoples traded there. Today, The Forks is a tourist destination, with shops, restaurants, and all sorts of entertainment and events. In the winter, there is a walking/skating trail on the rivers that provides a unique perspective on the city that you can't find anywhere else.
Fresh - brings food to mind. I'm on a kick to try and eat less pre-packaged food and to cook meals I've made myself from scratch with fresh ingredients. Like the experts say - if you read the ingredients on a packaged food and find anything that your grandmother would not have recognized, don't eat it.
Escape - a tropical beach, a lounge chair, a book and a rum punch. Heaven.
Moment - I'm trying to live more in the moment. I sabotage myself far too often by dwelling in the past or worrying about the future. I need to learn to concentrate more on the here and now, because that's really all that matters.
Night - I've recently been dealing with insomnia, so the night and I have become good friends. It's hard to motivate myself to be productive when it feels like the rest of the world is asleep, but I think I may have found the answer - making friends with people overseas!
