I've chosen a project I completed in order to deal with an annoyance of mine. I live in a condo, and it comes complete with an ugly, dated doorbell/entry system. I was stuck as to what to do with the unattractive beige contraption - I couldn't remove it, nor could I paint it. I was stumped. And then a thought occurred to me - as long as I didn't block access to the controls, I could cover it completely.
So I set off on my search for the perfect cabinet, and found it soon after in an architectural salvage shop. It's an old wooden medicine cabinet that I scored for $25. I simply removed the back panel, did a bit of sanding and scraping, painted it with semi-gloss paint, and voila. It has the added benefit of muffling the obnoxiously loud doorbell, plus I have a place to hide my keys and sunglasses and whatnot. It's a win-win.
